Texas Parent Taught Drivers Ed

Your teen deserves the best and that’s why our TDLR Approved Texas Parent Taught Drivers Ed course for teens is trusted by thousands of parents and teens every year. The course includes both online and behind the wheel lessons.

Our parent taught course is approved by Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) as course #107 and replaces the State parent taught drivers ed course 101. Students can complete the online section of the course on any computer, IOS or Android device, as well as a laptop, from any location. Log in and out of the course as your time permits.

The Parent Taught Driver Education Course includes 32 hours of online classroom training that students can complete on virtually any computer, laptop or mobile friendly device.

Additionally, there are 44 hours of behind-the-wheel driving lessons that the parent or legal guardian supervises. For each driving objective, there are printouts in the course, so the supervising parent knows exactly what to cover with their student.

There are no stringent timelines. The Parent Taught course makes it easy for both students and parents to complete the course on their time schedule.

Getting Started with Parent Taught Driver Education

The first step towards completing the online course is to download and fill out the Texas Parent Taught Drivers Ed packet in pdf form located inside the course. This is a mandatory step, mandated by the State of Texas, for any teen using the Parent Taught course.

After receiving their packet from the State of Texas, your teen will begin the parent taught course with online training sessions. The first six hours of the online course prepare the student to take and pass the written test at your local DPS office.

90.4% of our teen students pass the DPS written test on the first try and receive their Texas learners permit.

At this point in the course, when the student is ready to visit their local DPS office to get their learner’s permit, we provide a complete Parent Taught Drivers Ed checklist that covers everything you will need to bring to your local DPS office. This is important, because if you do not bring the items on the checklist, it will require another visit. The DPS office is strict on this, so be sure to print the checklist and double check before making the trip.

Parent Taught Drivers Ed – Behind the Wheel

Once your student has their Texas learners permit, they can begin the In-car (behind the wheel) driving lessons. Our online Parent Taught Drivers Ed course has print-outs for each driving objective the parent instructor will cover.

Many parents set aside certain days of the week, after work, to spend an hour or two at a time with their student so it doesn’t become a burden. Remember, this is a self-paced course, so In-car lessons can be completed as your time permits.

Meanwhile, the teen student will also continue working on the online course requirements.

Getting Your Drivers License with Parent Taught Driver Education

Once your student has completed our TDLR Approved Texas Parent Taught Driver Education course and received their DE-964 (Texas Driver Education Certificate), and the student has held their learners permit for at least six months and is at least sixteen years of age, they can apply for their Texas drivers license and schedule the road test at your local DPS office.
